BRAZIL 2014 STADIUM INFORMATION
Brazil will become the fifth nation to host the FIFA World Cup twice, after Mexico, Italy, France and Germany.
The Estdio do Maracan in Rio de Janeiro will most
probably become the second stadium after the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City to host two Football World Cup Finals.
Brazil will become the first nation to break the well-established chain of allowing a European
nation to host the World Cup Finals every eight years - with South Africa
scheduled to host the Finals in 2010, there will be at least a twelve-year
interlude between Finals hosted by European nations.
There are nineteen cities that showed interest in being chosen as hosts for
the World Cup's games: Rio de Janeiro,
Sao Paulo,
Belo Horizonte,
Porto Alegre,
Brasilia,
Belam,
FIFA confirmed Brazil as the host nation in October 2007.
Brazil had been expected to host the tournament after Colombia, the only other declared candidate, withdrew
its bid.
