ENGLAND CONFIRM INTEREST IN 2018 - Follow the Bid with 2014Brazil.co.uk
The English FA have declared there interest in submitting a bid to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Although the application has the full backing of the British Goverment its the FIFA delegates that they need to please.
England already as most of the infrastructure needed to host such an event with the new Wembely now open it would provide a perfect setting for any international event. There are also a growing list of other english teams that could provide stadiums capable of supporting such a bid. With Wemberly 90,000 Old Trafford 75,000, Emirates 60,000, St James Park 52,000, Villa Park 42,000 already built and ready to go. There is also a host of clubs with plans to expand there current grounds including, Liverpool, 60,000, Spurs, 52,000, Everton 50,000+. Thats eight stadiums without even looking clubs like Chelsea, Sunderland, Middlesbrough,Manchester City, Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday with stadiums already capable of holding capacities of in and around 40,000 fans. Add that to all the purpose built training facilities spread out around the country the english bid should take some beating.
With the 2010 tournament scheduled for South Africa and the tournament likely to be in South America for 2014 , the hosts for 2018 look set to come from Europe, Asia or Oceania. Potential competition to an English bid is likely to come from; Australia, Mexico, Holland/Belgium, Spain & China.
